OPP officer charged with manslaughter in Turkey Point death

An Ontario Provincial Police officer has been charged with manslaughter for a fatal shooting in Norfolk County last summer. Const. Quade Odrowski was charged following an investigation by the province’s police watchdog into the death of a 22-year-old man at Turkey Point on Aug. 12, 2025, the Special Investigations Unit said Thursday.

The SIU said OPP officers on Lake Erie attempted to stop the operator of a personal watercraft, but it headed into the marina. The man parked the watercraft at the MacDonald Turkey Point Marina and entered a wooded area on foot, the SIU said.

“In the course of his subsequent arrest, an officer discharged his firearm at the man. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene,” the SIU said.

Odrowski was arrested at SIU headquarters and subsequently released on an undertaking with conditions. He is scheduled to appear in a Simcoe, Ont., court on June 2.

The SIU said it will not provide further comment on the investigation as the matter is now before the courts.

OPP union responds to charge

The Ontario Provincial Police Association President David Sabatini said the union supports Odrowski and other officers involved in the arrest.

“Our members have cooperated with the investigation led by the Special Investigations Unit, as mandated by law,” Sabatini said in a statement.

“As part of the OPP Association’s support of PC Odrowski, we provide him with legal counsel and will fully support a legal defence as the matter proceeds through the justice system,” Sabatini said.

“Anytime a police interaction results in the loss of life there are serious and far-reaching impacts for all those involved and affected,” he said.

“The upcoming judicial process will be long and stressful and we urge all OPPA Members who are impacted by this incident to reach out for professional and or peer mental health supports.”
