Calgary Volunteer Fair Returns for Fifth Year with Expanded Opportunities
The Calgary Annual Volunteer Fair is making its highly anticipated return for a fifth consecutive year, offering residents an exceptional opportunity to connect with local organizations in need of dedicated helpers. This year's event promises to be the largest yet, featuring an impressive lineup of 65 diverse organizations spanning a wide spectrum of community causes.
Event Details and Location
The fair is scheduled for Thursday, April 23, 2026, running from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the downtown campus of the University of Calgary. This central location provides easy access for Calgarians from all neighborhoods who are interested in exploring meaningful volunteer roles.
"I truly believe that you can find something that works for you," emphasized Alexandra Kyrska Gram, president and co-founder of the volunteer fair. "By coming in and being able to connect and really have those conversations with the groups that you'll be volunteering with, you can really get a sense right away if this is the right place for you."
Diverse Organizations and Causes
This year's participating organizations represent numerous important community sectors, including:

- Food insecurity initiatives
- Environmental health programs
- Local attractions and festivals

Unlike online volunteer searches, this in-person event facilitates direct conversations between potential volunteers and organization representatives. "We are in a digital age and there are lots of resources online," Gram acknowledged. "That can be a blessing but it can also be a bit difficult to find what you're looking for unless you know specifically what you want."
The fair addresses this challenge by bringing together numerous resources in one convenient location, allowing visitors to speak directly with people already engaged with each organization. "There's something about that, that kind of makes it easier to connect faster and more meaningful right off the top," Gram explained.
What to Expect and How to Prepare
Organizers emphasize that the event is designed to be casual and welcoming. Visitors are encouraged to present their authentic selves rather than worrying about formal attire or extensive preparation.
"It's up to the volunteer to decide where they feel comfortable," Gram stated. "We really want to empower them and have them feel like they can find something. If that for them means a t-shirt and jeans, great. If that means a suit, also great. They can bring a resume or don't bring a resume."
To encourage attendance despite potentially unfavorable weather forecasts, organizers are offering special incentives including tickets to Calgary Surge basketball games and passes to the Calgary Folk Festival.
Building on Previous Success
Last year's fair attracted between 600 and 800 participants, and organizers anticipate a similar turnout for this year's event. The continued growth demonstrates Calgary's strong community spirit and residents' commitment to making a difference through volunteer work.
"We want to give people a reason to come through the door because once they're in, they're really happy and surprised and delighted to see all the different organizations and what they have to offer," Gram concluded, highlighting the event's ultimate goal of creating meaningful connections between volunteers and organizations that align with their values and interests.
