A 53-year-old Saskatoon man has been charged with animal cruelty after an incident involving his dog in the Evergreen neighborhood. Police responded to a call on June 12 at approximately 7:25 p.m. at an apartment building in the 400 block of Maningas Bend.
Allegations of Dog Abuse
According to a Saskatoon police news release, officers were dispatched after reports that a man was assaulting his dog. The release stated that the man was allegedly kicking and choking the animal, causing unnecessary pain.
Arrest and Firearms Discovery
Upon arrival, police arrested the 53-year-old suspect inside the apartment. During the investigation, officers discovered numerous firearms in the suite. The man did not possess a valid Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL), which is required to legally own firearms in Canada.
The man faces a charge of willfully causing unnecessary pain to his dog by kicking and choking. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 20 at Saskatoon provincial court. Police have not released the man's name.
