Police in Thibodaux, Louisiana, have arrested a couple on a combined 83 counts of sexual abuse of an animal after discovering a cache of homemade bestiality videos on their digital devices. The investigation began when officers responded to a report of child abuse involving a six-year-old girl.
Child Abuse Investigation Leads to Disturbing Discovery
According to authorities, on May 15, 2026, Phillip Babin, 28, allegedly struck his girlfriend's daughter in the face with a curtain rod, causing significant injuries. Babin was arrested on a charge of second-degree cruelty to a juvenile and released after posting $50,000 bail. During the investigation, detectives obtained a search warrant for the home shared by Babin and Hailey Mire, 34.
Inside the residence, police seized multiple digital devices belonging to the couple. The devices reportedly contained numerous videos depicting Mire and Babin engaging in sex acts with their family dog. The footage led to additional charges against both individuals.
Bail Set at $360,000 for Babin, $520,000 for Mire
Babin was charged with 36 counts of sexual abuse of an animal in addition to the initial cruelty charge. His bail was set at $360,000. Mire faces 47 counts of sexual abuse of an animal and one count of obstruction of justice, with bail set at $520,000. The higher bail for Mire reflects her greater alleged involvement in the animal abuse, according to law enforcement.
The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office emphasized that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Under Louisiana law, second-degree cruelty to juveniles carries a potential sentence of up to 40 years of hard labor. Bestiality charges are prosecuted under state animal cruelty and crimes against nature statutes, with convictions potentially resulting in felony charges, prison sentences of one to 10 years of hard labor, and fines up to $25,000.
Separate Bestiality Case in British Columbia
In a related case, a British Columbia man accused of having sex with a horse has opted for a trial by a Supreme Court judge alone. Seth Justin Christian was charged on March 25 with one count of bestiality following a January 26 incident at Abigail Equestrian in Vernon. CCTV footage allegedly shows Christian using a stool to sexually assault a female horse. On June 25, Christian appeared in Vernon court and elected to proceed without a preliminary inquiry. He is scheduled to return to court on July 20.
