Florida Woman Accused of Intentionally Killing Baby Ducks

A Florida woman is facing serious legal consequences after authorities allege she deliberately drove over a group of baby ducks, killing them because they had made a mess in her yard. The incident occurred on Tempest Street on the Westside of Jacksonville, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

On Saturday, April 25, 2026, a couple reported witnessing a woman in a red Honda Accord intentionally driving over a group of ducklings. The couple stated that the woman turned her vehicle around multiple times to ensure she ran over them. The Sheriff's Office shared details of the incident on Facebook, noting that the couple confronted the woman days later, and she admitted to killing the ducks because she was upset about the mess they created in her yard.

Surveillance video obtained by the couple shows the ducklings lying dead in the street, with the mother duck and two surviving ducklings fleeing as the Honda drove toward them. The video evidence was crucial in identifying the suspect.

Investigators traced the vehicle to its owner, 64-year-old Beverly Sasberry. After pulling her over and conducting an interview, police arrested Sasberry and charged her with 11 counts of felony cruelty to animals. The charges reflect the number of ducklings killed in the incident.

Neighbor Reports Disturbing Comments

Neighbor Kyle Hutchinson, who witnessed the alleged incident, told local news that he confronted Sasberry afterward. She reportedly told him she was upset because the ducks had left droppings in her backyard. Hutchinson quoted her as saying, "She just kept saying that she just wants to kill more. It’s literally what she said a few times. ‘I’ll do it again. I’ll do it again."

The case has drawn attention to animal cruelty laws in Florida, where felony charges can result in significant penalties. Sasberry is currently in custody, and her court date has not yet been set.
