A 34-year-old mother from Fort Myers, Florida, has been charged after police say she kicked a teenage football player during an on-field brawl that occurred on Saturday, May 2, 2026. The incident took place during a youth Pop Warner football game at Brooks Community Park.
Details of the Incident
The Lee County Sheriff's Office reported on Monday that Renee Lambert was arrested on Saturday afternoon after a recording captured her intervening in the match. According to police, the altercation began when players from two teams became involved in a physical confrontation following a play. Lambert allegedly ran onto the field and kicked a player who was on the ground.
Witnesses alerted officers who were already providing security at the park. The woman was confronted by police, and the interaction was recorded by an officer's body camera. In the footage, Lambert can be heard asking, "You're mad at them for hitting me?" to which the officer responds, "I'm mad at an adult for attacking a kid."
Police Investigation
A bystander's video shows the accused kicking the teenage player. Police allege that Lambert stormed the field and began kicking a player during the brawl. The suspect was located and detained by deputies. Lambert claimed that a child hit her with a helmet, prompting her to fight back. However, officers determined that her allegation against the child was unfounded.
According to a probable cause statement released by the sheriff's office and reported by ABC News, "Witnesses stated that after an incident on the field with the youth players fighting, some parents came onto the field to intervene. A witness reported seeing the adult female kick a juvenile male multiple times."
Charges Filed
Police said Lambert was charged with cruelty towards a child-abuse without great bodily harm and resisting an officer. The case highlights the growing concern over parental involvement in youth sports and the potential for serious consequences when adults intervene in children's games.
