Canada's Alistair Johnston slams Frontier Airlines after wrong city

Canadian FIFA World Cup star Alistair Johnston publicly criticized Frontier Airlines on Sunday, stating that the carrier flew him to the wrong city and lost his luggage following Canada's Round of 16 loss to Morocco. Johnston, a key right back for the Canadian men's national team, took to social media to express his frustration.

Johnston's social media complaint

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Johnston wrote: "Learned my lesson today. Never fly @FlyFrontier even if it's the only direct flight available. Genuinely look for multi-stop redeye flights before flying with them. I'm still not sure where my bags are and I'm in the wrong city somehow." The post included a crying emoji.

The official account of the Canadian men's national team replied, asking "Where did they send you?" with a crying emoji. Johnston has not yet shared further details about his location or his luggage.

Fellow traveler shares similar experience

Another traveler, Danny Pham, responded to Johnston with a photo of the two at an airport, sharing his own ordeal: "Hey AJ I managed to get on the next connecting flight it was genuinely ridiculous, Frontier turned a 2.5 hour flight into 8-9 hours flight + a horrendous delay (14hours). After we took the next flight that they rebooked us to. I know where your bag is its at the original airport."

Frontier Airlines' response team replied to Pham, stating: "We're very sorry to hear about your experience and truly appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We would certainly like to look into this further." The airline asked Pham to follow them so they could connect via direct message.

Johnston's World Cup performance and message to fans

Despite the travel mishap, Johnston expressed gratitude for the support Canada received during the World Cup. In an Instagram post, he wrote: "Thank you Canada. Your support gave us the belief that anything was possible & we hope that you all enjoyed the ride as much as we did! This group takes such pride in representing our country and I hope that we made you proud. See you all soon." He included team photos and a picture of Canadian fans.

Johnston is expected to return to Scotland to begin training with Celtic ahead of the Scottish Premier League season. It remains unclear how he will travel to the team's camp, though he is unlikely to choose Frontier Airlines again.
