Enoteca Monza Brings Modern Italian Cuisine to Calgary's Market Mall
A new culinary destination has arrived in Calgary, offering residents a fresh taste of Italy with a contemporary flair. Enoteca Monza Pizzeria Moderna has officially opened its doors in Market Mall, marking the first expansion of the popular restaurant chain into Western Canada.
A Modern Twist on Italian Classics
Located on the east side of Market Mall at 3625 Shaganappi Trail N.W., this upscale-casual establishment serves a wide selection of traditional Italian favorites reimagined for modern palates. The menu features an artfully curated range of dishes, from classic pasta and pizza to innovative creations like pistachio-crusted cod and prosciutto-wrapped filet mignon.
"Opening our first Monza in Calgary is a major milestone for us," said Peter Mammas, president and CEO of Foodtastic, the company that acquired Enoteca Monza in 2018. "It marks its official entry into Western Canada and reflects our long-term vision to grow the brand coast to coast."
Authentic Italian Experience
The restaurant's name pays homage to Italian culinary traditions. "Enoteca" is an Italian term referring to a wine shop or repository, and the establishment honors this heritage through its extensive wine list and craft cocktail offerings. The Calgary location represents the tenth Monza restaurant nationwide, joining nine existing locations in eastern Canada.
During Wednesday's opening event, many attendees expressed enthusiasm for the authentic Italian dishes with modern interpretations, with numerous guests indicating they planned to return. The restaurant's vibrant atmosphere and commitment to Italian hospitality were particularly praised.
Expansive Menu Offerings
Monza's culinary offerings include:
- A diverse antipasti selection featuring hand-crafted arancini, slow-cooked meatballs, and creamy burrata
- An array of apple wood-fired pizzas, including the popular quattro formaggi
- Fresh pasta dishes prepared with traditional techniques
- Seafood and steak options, including unique Calgary-exclusive items
- A brunch menu alongside the main dining selections
Dessert lovers can indulge in traditional Italian sweets like cannolis and tiramisu, along with creative offerings such as Nutella pizza and dulce chocolate cake.
Strategic Expansion into Western Canada
The Calgary opening represents a strategic partnership between Foodtastic and the West Coast-based Pacific Rose Hospitality Group. Together, these groups operate ten restaurants in Alberta and previously collaborated to open the first Milestones location in Calgary.
