WestJet and Icelandair have signed a reciprocal codeshare agreement at the 2026 IATA AGM in Rio de Janeiro, enhancing connectivity for travellers across the Atlantic. The partnership, pending regulatory approval, will allow WestJet guests to seamlessly access more than 10 destinations in Europe via a convenient connection at Keflavik International Airport (KEF) in Iceland.
Expanded Network and Convenience
Under the agreement, passengers can book a single ticket and check baggage through to their final destination. WestJet guests flying from Calgary, Edmonton, or Winnipeg to Keflavik will be able to connect to Icelandair's extensive European network, including cities in Scandinavia, the United Kingdom, and mainland Europe.
John Weatherill, WestJet Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer, stated: "Strengthening our longstanding partnership with Icelandair marks an important step in expanding choice and connectivity to Canadians. By leveraging Icelandair’s extensive network through Reykjavik, we’re opening more seamless access to Europe while deepening a partnership that delivers greater value and convenience for travellers."
Benefits for European Travelers
The codeshare also benefits European and Icelandic travelers, who can now connect via Icelandair to WestJet's domestic network across Canada with a single stop. Bogi Nils Bogason, Icelandair President and CEO, said: "We are pleased to develop our partnership with WestJet as our first Canadian codeshare partner airline to further expand our global network and offer our customers even greater choice and connectivity."
New and Returning Routes
Later this month, WestJet will launch non-stop service to Keflavik from Edmonton and Winnipeg. Additionally, due to popular demand, WestJet's seasonal summer flying between Calgary and Keflavik has returned for the 2026 summer travel season. These routes will be supported by the codeshare, enabling smooth onward connections to Icelandair's European network.
