The Toronto Maple Leafs have added offensive depth on the opening day of NHL free agency, signing forward Jack Roslovic to a two-year contract with an average annual value of $4 million US, according to multiple reports.
Roslovic, 29, is coming off back-to-back seasons with more than 20 goals. He scored 21 goals in 69 games for the Edmonton Oilers in 2025-26 and 22 goals in 81 games for the Carolina Hurricanes two seasons ago. The Columbus, Ohio native is a right-handed shot who previously played with Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews on the United States under-18 team in 2014-15, where Matthews led the team in scoring and Roslovic was second.
Chayka's first free-agent move
The signing marks general manager John Chayka's initial foray into free agency. It comes after Toronto traded Nick Robertson to the Pittsburgh Penguins earlier on Wednesday. Robertson (16 goals), Matias Maccelli (14) and Max Domi (12) combined for 42 goals last season, and the Leafs needed to replace that production. Maccelli was not qualified, and Domi's health is in question after post-surgery complications earlier in the off-season.
According to Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun, the Leafs had interest in Roslovic last summer under former GM Brad Treliving before he signed with Edmonton.
Potential addition of Colton Sissons
There was speculation that the Leafs were also on the verge of signing center Colton Sissons. The 32-year-old native of North Vancouver spent most of his NHL career with Nashville before playing last season with the Vegas Golden Knights. He had 11 points in 66 regular-season games but recorded eight points in 22 playoff games. Sissons won 56.5% of his faceoffs last season and is considered a responsible two-way player.
In 756 career NHL games, the 6-foot-1, 200-pound Sissons has 232 points (101 goals and 131 assists). He averaged 12.5 minutes of ice time per game with Vegas in 2025-26.
One forward linked to the Leafs, Mason Marchment, signed with the San Jose Sharks.
