The Los Angeles Lakers have signed free-agent forward Kevon Looney, according to a league source, and remain interested in adding Golden State Warriors restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga.
Looney's new role with the Lakers
Looney, 30, spent the previous 10 seasons with the Golden State Warriors, winning three NBA championships. He averaged 4.2 points and 5.7 rebounds last season for the New Orleans Pelicans, who acquired him in a trade before the 2025-26 campaign. The Lakers are expected to use Looney as a backup center behind Anthony Davis, providing veteran depth and rebounding.
Pursuit of Jonathan Kuminga
The Lakers are also pursuing Jonathan Kuminga, a restricted free agent who has drawn interest from several teams. Kuminga, 23, averaged 16.1 points and 4.8 rebounds last season for the Warriors. The Lakers have the salary-cap flexibility to offer a competitive contract, though Golden State has the right to match any offer sheet. According to a league source, the Lakers are preparing a multi-year deal worth approximately $20 million annually.
The Lakers' aggressive moves come after a disappointing first-round playoff exit last season. Team president Rob Pelinka has prioritized adding young, athletic talent around LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Kuminga would provide scoring and defensive versatility on the wing.
