Jeep Recall Hits Thousands of Vehicles Across North America
Stellantis, the parent company of Jeep, has announced a recall affecting tens of thousands of Jeep Cherokee vehicles in Canada and the United States. The recall, issued on May 14, 2026, stems from a potential engine fire risk that could occur even when the vehicle is turned off.
The recall impacts approximately 100,000 Jeep Cherokees from the 2014 through 2016 model years. In Canada, about 20,000 vehicles are affected, while the U.S. sees roughly 80,000 units recalled. The issue involves a possible electrical short circuit in the power liftgate module, which could lead to a fire.
Safety Concerns and Owner Guidance
Stellantis has urged owners to park their vehicles outdoors and away from structures until the recall repairs are completed. Dealers will inspect and replace the power liftgate module if necessary, free of charge. The company stated that it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this defect.
Owners can check if their vehicle is included in the recall by visiting the Stellantis recall website or contacting their local dealer. Notifications will be mailed to affected owners starting in June 2026.
Industry Context
This recall adds to a series of safety actions by Stellantis in recent years. The company has emphasized its commitment to customer safety and quality. The Jeep Cherokee has been a popular model in North America, but this issue highlights ongoing challenges in automotive reliability.
