Chad Dallas made a memorable Major League Baseball debut on Thursday, combining with five Toronto pitchers to hold the Atlanta Braves to just four hits as the Blue Jays secured a 7-2 victory at Truist Park.
Dallas Impresses in First Start
The 25-year-old right-hander allowed two runs on three hits over 4 2/3 innings, striking out four and walking two. He exited to a standing ovation from the Blue Jays dugout after throwing 78 pitches, 49 for strikes.
Toronto's bullpen took over from there, with Tim Mayza, Trevor Richards, Erik Swanson, Jordan Romano, and Yimi Garcia combining for 4 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out six.
Offensive Support
The Blue Jays offense provided ample support, scoring seven runs on 11 hits. Bo Bichette led the way with a two-run homer in the first inning, his 12th of the season. George Springer added a solo shot in the third, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. contributed an RBI double.
Daulton Varsho also drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Kevin Kiermaier chipped in with an RBI single.
Braves Struggle Offensively
The Braves managed only four hits, with Ronald Acuña Jr. and Matt Olson each driving in a run. Atlanta's starter, Bryce Elder, took the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits over five innings.
The win improved Toronto's record to 34-28, while Atlanta fell to 36-26.
Dallas Reflects on Debut
After the game, Dallas expressed his excitement about the debut. 'It's a dream come true,' he said. 'I've been working for this my whole life, and to get the win in my first start is incredible.'
Blue Jays manager John Schneider praised the rookie's composure. 'Chad was outstanding. He showed a lot of poise out there against a tough lineup.'
The Blue Jays will look to continue their winning streak as they face the Braves again on Friday.
