Health Canada has issued a recall alert for a specific herbal tea product due to the presence of an undeclared allergen. The affected item is DAVIDsTEA brand Organic Sneeze Ease Herbal Infusion, which may contain almond, a known tree nut allergen not listed on the label.
Recall Details
The recall was announced on May 14, 2026, and applies exclusively to tea sold online in 50-gram resealable pouches. Consumers can identify the recalled product by the UPC number 101202100502 and product code 000CHA831216.
Health Canada warns that individuals with allergies or sensitivities to almonds should not consume this product, as it could cause serious or life-threatening reactions. The agency advises checking for the recalled tea, not serving or using it, and either discarding it or returning it to the place of purchase.
Investigation Underway
The recall was initiated by the company itself, and no adverse reactions have been reported so far. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to additional recalls of other products. The CFIA is also verifying that the recalled items are being removed from the marketplace.
Tree nuts on Canada’s list of priority food allergens include almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, pine nuts, pistachios, and walnuts. Peanuts, however, are legumes and not considered tree nuts. Other major food allergens include peanuts, sesame seeds, milk, eggs, fish, crustaceans, molluscs, soy, wheat, triticale, and mustard.
This recall follows other recent food safety actions in Canada, such as a major recall by Bissell and a Sobeys cheese recall due to Listeria risk. Consumers are encouraged to stay informed and check for updates from Health Canada and the CFIA.
