Thirteen individuals have been charged with a total of 105 offences following the seizure of approximately $4.1 million worth of drugs in Cornwall, Ontario, and Montreal, Quebec. The investigation, conducted jointly by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Surete du Quebec (SQ), targeted a drug-trafficking network operating across the two provinces.

Details of the seizure

Law enforcement officials reported that the confiscated substances included a significant quantity of suspected fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid linked to numerous overdose deaths. The drugs were seized during coordinated raids on multiple properties in both cities. Authorities also recovered cash and other assets believed to be proceeds from illegal drug sales.

Charges laid

The accused face a wide range of charges, including trafficking, possession for the purpose of trafficking, and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence. The charges reflect the scale and complexity of the operation, which police say involved multiple levels of distribution.

“This investigation highlights the commitment of our officers to disrupt the flow of dangerous drugs into our communities,” said an OPP spokesperson. “The collaboration between provincial police forces was essential to dismantling this network.”

The accused are scheduled to appear in court in Cornwall and Montreal in the coming weeks. None of the allegations have been proven in court.

This case is part of broader efforts by Canadian law enforcement to combat the opioid crisis, which has claimed thousands of lives across the country. Fentanyl, in particular, has been a major contributor to overdose fatalities, prompting increased policing and public health interventions.
