A New Brunswick charity is stepping up to address what it calls a 'clear health equity issue' by offering free asthma inhaler spacers to individuals who cannot afford them. The initiative, launched by the organization, aims to ensure that all asthma patients have access to this essential device, which helps deliver medication effectively.
Bridging the Gap in Asthma Care
Inhaler spacers are crucial for proper asthma management, especially for children and the elderly. However, their cost can be a barrier for many families. The charity's program seeks to remove this financial obstacle, providing spacers at no charge to those in need. 'No one should have to choose between buying a spacer and putting food on the table,' said a spokesperson for the charity.
Impact on the Community
The program has already distributed hundreds of spacers across the province. Recipients have reported improved asthma control and fewer emergency visits. 'It has made a huge difference for my son,' said one parent. 'He can now use his inhaler properly, and we don't have to worry about the cost.'
The charity hopes to expand the initiative to other regions, partnering with local clinics and schools to reach more families. 'This is about equity,' the spokesperson added. 'Every child deserves to breathe easily.'
