A Hamilton man has been arrested and charged with voyeurism after police say he secretly recorded videos of several people over a span of nearly 20 years.
Details of the Investigation
Hamilton Police Service announced the charges against Jason Machado on Wednesday. The investigation began after a victim came forward in early 2026, leading to a search warrant at Machado's residence. Authorities seized multiple electronic devices containing recordings believed to have been made without the knowledge or consent of the victims.
Police allege that Machado recorded individuals in various settings, including private residences and public spaces, between 2006 and 2025. The victims include both adults and minors, though specific ages have not been disclosed.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Machado, 47, has been charged with 12 counts of voyeurism and one count of possessing child pornography. He was remanded into custody following a brief court appearance and is scheduled to return to court next week.
Detective Sergeant Mark Taylor of the Hamilton Police Service's Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit stated, 'This case highlights the invasive nature of voyeurism and the lasting trauma it causes victims. We believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.'
Police Appeal for Additional Victims
Investigators are urging anyone who may have been recorded by Machado or who has information about his activities to contact them. A dedicated tip line has been established, and police are working with victim services to provide support.
Police are also reviewing the seized devices to identify any other potential victims. They caution that the investigation is ongoing and more charges may be laid.
Voyeurism is a serious criminal offense in Canada, carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. The case has sparked discussions about privacy rights and the need for vigilance in protecting personal space.
