Toronto Public Health to distribute free World Cup condoms

Toronto Public Health (TPH) has announced a new initiative to distribute free, limited-edition condoms with World Cup-themed designs as the city prepares to host matches for the FIFA World Cup 2026. The condoms, which feature six different soccer-inspired designs, will be available at four TPH-operated sexual health clinics across Toronto.

Condom Designs and Messaging

The condoms come in various designs aimed at promoting safe sex while celebrating the World Cup. One design shows a soccer ball hitting the net with the phrase "What a finish!" Another features defenders blocking a free kick with the words "block those shots." A third design, labeled "Peaches & Cream," includes a peach emoji next to an eggplant emoji holding two soccer balls. These designs are intended to be both playful and educational.

Safer Sex Supplies Distribution

TPH will provide these condoms along with other safer sex supplies at clinics in Bloor West, Scarborough, Jane-St. Clair, and North York. The agency emphasizes that using condoms consistently during oral, anal, or vaginal sex reduces the risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV, and unplanned pregnancy. TPH also notes that its sexual health clinics are pro-choice, inclusive, non-judgmental, and harm-reduction informed.

Comparison with Other Major Sporting Events

This initiative follows similar efforts at other international sporting events. During the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina, nearly 10,000 condoms were distributed in just three days, leading to a shortage. Organizers had promoted safe sex with the slogan "Health first: Prevention and common sense." At the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, 300,000 condoms were made available to athletes, a decrease from the 450,000 supplied at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games.

Public Health Message

TPH encourages residents and visitors to practice safe sex during the World Cup festivities. "Whether you're attending a soccer match, a watch party, hitting a summer festival or partying, remember that condoms protect the health of you and your partner(s)," the agency's website states. The condoms are available while supplies last, and TPH has promoted the campaign on social media with the hashtag #condomTOhhhh.
