Sault Ste. Marie police have charged a man with trafficking a person under the age of 18, according to a news release issued Friday. The arrest follows an investigation by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service's Criminal Investigation Division.
Details of the Arrest
The accused, whose identity has not been released to protect the victim's privacy, is facing charges under the Criminal Code for human trafficking of a minor. Police say the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be laid.
“Human trafficking is a serious crime that exploits vulnerable individuals, especially minors,” said Detective Constable Sarah Thompson in a statement. “We are committed to holding offenders accountable and supporting survivors.”
Victim Support Services
Authorities have not disclosed the circumstances of the alleged trafficking but confirmed that the victim is receiving support from specialized services. Police urge anyone with information to come forward.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court next week. The investigation continues, and police are asking the public to report any suspicious activity related to human trafficking.
