Sault Ste. Marie police have charged a man with trafficking a person under the age of 18, according to a news release issued Friday. The arrest follows an investigation by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service's Criminal Investigation Division.

The accused, whose identity has not been released to protect the victim's privacy, is facing charges under the Criminal Code for human trafficking of a minor. Police say the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be laid.

“Human trafficking is a serious crime that exploits vulnerable individuals, especially minors,” said Detective Constable Sarah Thompson in a statement. “We are committed to holding offenders accountable and supporting survivors.”
