Jelly Roll Opens Up About Weight-Loss Setback: 'Kinda Got Off the Rails'
Jelly Roll Gets Candid About Weight-Loss Setback

Country music star Jelly Roll has been open about his remarkable weight loss journey, shedding nearly 300 pounds over the past three years through diet and lifestyle changes. However, the Grammy winner recently admitted that even the most determined individuals can face setbacks.

A Candid Confession

In a video posted on his YouTube channel last week, Jelly Roll revealed that he is training for the New York City Marathon in November. He hired a coach to help him prepare for his first marathon, but the experience has been challenging.

“I ran 16 miles in one week, and my knees hurt. My hips hurt. My back hurt. My neck hurt. My head hurt. My toes hurt. There’s a bone in my foot I didn’t know existed hurts,” the singer said in the video. “Ultimately y’all, this is going to be quite a journey.”

Struggles and Setbacks

Jelly Roll also confessed that he hasn’t been diligent about tracking his weight loss. Despite achieving a major milestone earlier this year by appearing on the cover of Men’s Health, things recently took a turn for the worse. He admitted to indulging during the holidays and “kinda got off the rails.” A broken collarbone also prevented him from exercising during that period.

“I said all that to say that I have, to some degree, lost my way. Men’s Health was not the goal. It wasn’t the weight that I wanted to get to be at maintenance,” he shared, noting that his “maintenance weight” is still about 40 to 60 pounds away.

Fear of the Scale

Because of his recent stumbling block, the country star had avoided stepping on the scale to see where he actually stands.

“I’m afraid to see what the scale is going to say from what my actual goal is,” he confessed. “I feel really fat. I feel really bloated. I feel like the scale’s going to let me down. I feel like I’m going to find out I’ve gained like 15 pounds over the f***ing last six months.”

“I’m scared, but at least we’re here together,” he said. “Got to start somewhere though, avoiding weighing in has been the problem.”

When he finally checked the scale on April 10, his weight was 276.2 pounds, up from around 265 pounds when he covered Men’s Health in January.

“That’s our reality right there. So we’re up 12 pounds,” he said.

Looking Ahead

In his interview with the publication, Jelly Roll shared that with the help of a chef and sports nutritionist, he was able to change his eating habits, and even got a therapist to speak to about his mental health.

“I started treating my food addiction like what it was: an addiction,” he told Men’s Health at the time. “It started changing everything for me … really looking at the source of why I was eating. What was I eating for?”

Jelly Roll has another goal, though: posing shirtless on the cover of a magazine once he reaches his ideal weight.

“I just believe there’s a story that a guy can go from 560 pounds to a shirt-off picture,” he revealed. “It’s absurd.”
