Calgary is offering free swimming lessons this summer as part of a renewed push for water safety. Rescue boats are actively patrolling the Bow River in collaboration with the Calgary Police Service to help enforce municipal bylaws and provincial statutes, such as wearing a personal flotation device.
Water Safety Campaign
The initiative comes amid pleas from officials for residents to prioritize safety around water. With warmer weather drawing more people to rivers and lakes, the city aims to reduce drowning incidents through education and enforcement.
Free Lessons for All Ages
Free swimming lessons are available for children and adults at participating pools. The program is designed to teach basic swimming skills and water survival techniques. Spaces are limited, and registration is required.
Authorities remind everyone that life jackets are mandatory on boats and strongly recommended for weak swimmers. The Bow River patrols will continue throughout the summer to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
