Pursuit Attractions and Hospitality Inc. has released images of its new all-electric Ice Explorer, the world's first tour bus of its kind to operate in the challenging environment of the Athabasca Glacier, southeast of Jasper, Alberta.
The vehicle represents a significant leap forward in sustainable tourism, designed to navigate the rugged terrain of the glacier while producing zero emissions. This innovation aligns with growing efforts to reduce the environmental impact of tourism in sensitive ecosystems.
The Athabasca Glacier, part of the Columbia Icefield, is a popular destination for visitors exploring the Rocky Mountains. The new electric Ice Explorer will replace traditional diesel-powered buses, reducing noise and air pollution in the area.
Pursuit Attractions, a company specializing in travel experiences, has not disclosed the exact range or charging infrastructure for the vehicle but emphasized its commitment to sustainability. The electric Explorer is expected to begin service later this year.
This development comes as the tourism industry increasingly adopts green technologies to meet climate goals. The electric Ice Explorer is a pioneering example of how remote and environmentally sensitive locations can integrate clean energy solutions.
