Severe Thunderstorm Watch in Ottawa After Warnings Lifted

A tornado warning issued for Ingleside, Ontario, and a severe thunderstorm warning for Ottawa have both been lifted, according to Environment Canada. However, a thunderstorm watch remains in effect for the region as of July 2, 2026, at 4:32 PM EDT.

Warnings Lifted, Watch Continues

The tornado warning for Ingleside was initially issued earlier in the day, prompting residents to take immediate shelter. The severe thunderstorm warning for Ottawa was also in effect but has since been cancelled. Despite the lifting of these warnings, Environment Canada advises that conditions remain favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms, and the watch will continue until further notice.

Extreme Heat and Flooding Impacts

The severe weather comes amid an ongoing extreme heat event in Ottawa. Peter Tilley, CEO of the Ottawa Mission, discussed how the organization is responding to the heat crisis, providing cooling centres and support for vulnerable populations. Additionally, the city experienced significant flooding, with 1,900 basements flooded after 118 mm of rain fell. The Insurance Bureau of Canada has launched a helpline for affected residents.
