A Manitoba family is picking up the pieces after high winds tore the roof off their home near Winnipeg. The storm, which swept through the region on Thursday, also kicked up a massive dust cloud that was captured by traffic cameras across the city.
Roof ripped off in minutes
The homeowners, who were inside at the time, described hearing a loud roar before the roof was lifted and tossed into the backyard. “Everything’s gone,” one resident said. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the structure is uninhabitable.
Dust storm descends
Traffic cameras showed a wall of dust moving through Winnipeg, reducing visibility and creating hazardous driving conditions. The storm came suddenly, catching many off guard.
Environment Canada had issued wind warnings earlier in the day, with gusts expected to exceed 90 km/h. The warnings remain in effect for parts of southern Manitoba.
Cleanup efforts are underway, and local officials are urging residents to secure loose objects and stay indoors until the winds subside.
