More than 100 millimetres of rain fell on parts of Manitoba, causing widespread flooding and leaving basement apartments underwater in Brandon's Quail Ridge neighbourhood, according to local reports on Monday, June 29, 2026.
Heavy rainfall impacts communities
The deluge, which began over the weekend, overwhelmed drainage systems and led to water pooling in low-lying areas. In Brandon, emergency crews responded to calls from residents in the Quail Ridge area where basement suites were inundated. A photo taken by Seraphina Gilbert showed water nearly reaching the ceilings of some underground units.
Environment Canada had issued rainfall warnings for several regions, predicting accumulations of up to 120 mm. The actual totals exceeded 100 mm in many communities, making it one of the wettest June events in recent memory.
Response and recovery efforts
Local authorities urged residents to avoid driving through flooded streets and to report any basement flooding to emergency services. The City of Brandon activated its emergency operations centre to coordinate sandbagging and pumping operations. No injuries were reported, but property damage is expected to be significant.
According to a statement from the city, crews worked through the night to clear blocked storm drains and assist affected households. Residents are advised to document damage for insurance purposes and to contact the Disaster Financial Assistance program if eligible.
