GO Transit is advising passengers of possible delays across its network as a heat wave grips the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) on June 30, 2026. The transit agency warned that extreme temperatures could affect rail operations, leading to schedule changes and longer travel times.
Heat wave impacts on rail infrastructure
High temperatures can cause rail tracks to expand, potentially leading to speed restrictions and delays. GO Transit stated it is monitoring conditions closely and implementing measures to ensure safety. Passengers are encouraged to check real-time updates before traveling and to carry water to stay hydrated.
Environment Canada has issued heat warnings for much of southern Ontario, with humidex values expected to exceed 40°C in some areas. The extreme weather is forecast to persist through the Canada Day long weekend.
Advice for commuters
GO Transit recommends passengers allow extra time for their journeys and consider alternative routes if possible. The agency also reminded travelers to stay cool at stations and on trains, and to report any medical emergencies to staff immediately.
“We are working to keep our services running as smoothly as possible, but we ask for patience as we navigate this heat wave,” said a GO Transit spokesperson. “Safety is our top priority.”
