Parts of central and southern Alberta, including communities east of Calgary, are bracing for very strong and potentially damaging winds on Thursday, according to Environment Canada.
Wind Warning Issued
A wind warning has been issued for regions east of Calgary and other parts of Alberta, with gusts expected to reach 80 to 100 km/h early Thursday morning. The warning covers areas such as Chestermere, Strathmore, Drumheller, Brooks, and Medicine Hat, as well as Red Deer and Edmonton.
Potential Impacts
Environment Canada stated that damage to roofs, fences, branches, or soft shelters is likely. Residents are advised to prepare for disruptions to transportation, services, and utilities. Driving conditions will be very difficult, and high-sided vehicles could be overturned by the wind. Loose objects should be secured, and people outdoors should protect themselves from flying or falling debris.
