Calgary is set to enjoy another stretch of hot and sunny weather heading into the second weekend of the Calgary Stampede. Forecasters predict clear skies and temperatures climbing into the high 20s to low 30s Celsius through Friday and into the weekend.
Friday Forecast
Friday will see mainly sunny conditions with a high near 29°C. Overnight lows will drop to around 14°C, providing some relief from the daytime heat. Winds will be light, making for ideal conditions for outdoor Stampede activities.
Weekend Outlook
Saturday and Sunday will continue the trend of abundant sunshine and heat. Daytime highs are expected to reach 30°C on Saturday and 31°C on Sunday. The UV index will be very high, so visitors are advised to wear sunscreen and stay hydrated.
Environment Canada meteorologist Danielle Savoni noted that this warm spell is typical for mid-July in Calgary. “We’re seeing a strong ridge of high pressure building over the region, which will keep skies clear and temperatures well above seasonal averages,” she said.
Impact on Stampede Attendance
The pleasant weather is expected to boost attendance at the Stampede grounds, which saw strong crowds during the first weekend. Organizers are reminding guests to take precautions against the heat, including seeking shade and drinking plenty of water.
According to Calgary Emergency Management Agency, heat-related calls to emergency services have been low so far this summer, but they urge caution during prolonged hot spells.
