Calgary residents can expect a mix of sun and clouds on Thursday with a chance of showers, but conditions are set to improve just in time for the Calgary Stampede parade on Friday. Environment Canada forecasts a high near 25°C on Thursday, with a 40 percent chance of showers throughout the day. Winds will be light, shifting from the southeast at 20 km/h in the morning to the northwest in the afternoon.
Friday Parade Forecast
The parade day on Friday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high of 27°C, offering ideal weather for the annual Stampede kickoff. Overnight lows will drop to around 12°C. The sunny outlook comes as a relief after a week of unsettled weather in the region.
According to Jodi Hughes, the forecast indicates a brief period of instability Thursday before high pressure builds in for the weekend. “We’ll see a few showers possible Thursday, but Friday looks fantastic for the parade,” Hughes said.
Regional Weather Alerts
Meanwhile, other parts of Canada continue to face extreme conditions. Heat warnings remain in effect for Southern Ontario, including London, Windsor-Essex, and Chatham-Kent, with humidex values reaching the low 40s. Montreal is under a heat warning as humidex values approach 42. The Maritimes are also under heat warnings, while British Columbia deals with flooding from a burst glacial lake, with an evacuation order still in place.
In Ottawa, a record-breaking downpour Wednesday could be followed by another thunderstorm Thursday. The storm grounded Prime Minister Carney’s plane, cancelling his trip to Alberta.
Stampede Preparations
The Calgary Stampede, running from July 3 to 12, is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of visitors. City officials have prepared for the crowds with enhanced transit services and road closures. The parade features over 150 entries, including floats, bands, and equestrian units.
