RCMP have confirmed the recovery of the body of a woman who fell through the ice on Cedar Lake in December 2025. The incident occurred on December 16, 2025, when a pickup truck with two occupants broke through the frozen surface of the lake. While one individual managed to escape, the woman was unable to get out and was presumed dead.
Search and Recovery
Search efforts had been ongoing since the accident, hampered by harsh winter conditions and the treacherous nature of the ice. RCMP utilized specialized equipment and divers to locate the victim. The body was finally recovered in late May 2026, bringing closure to the family and the community.
Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased pending notification of next of kin. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues, but foul play is not suspected.
Community Response
The incident has raised awareness about ice safety in the region. Local officials urge residents to exercise caution near frozen bodies of water, especially during early winter when ice thickness can be unpredictable. The RCMP expressed condolences to the family and thanked all involved in the search and recovery operation.
