An out-of-control wildfire that ignited in Woodlands County, northwest of Edmonton, is now being held by fire crews, but an evacuation order issued for the area remains in effect, officials confirmed Wednesday.
Fire Status and Response
The blaze, which began on May 12, 2026, prompted mandatory evacuations for several rural properties. As of Wednesday afternoon, the fire is classified as "being held," meaning it is not expected to spread beyond established boundaries under current conditions. However, officials caution that changing weather could alter the situation.
Firefighters from multiple agencies are on scene, supported by air tankers and heavy equipment. No structures have been reported lost, and no injuries have been linked to the fire.
Evacuation Order Remains
Despite progress in containment, the evacuation order for affected areas remains in place. Residents are urged to stay away until further notice. Emergency social services are available for those displaced.
Woodlands County officials are monitoring the fire closely and will lift the order only when it is safe to return. The cause of the wildfire is under investigation.
