Golf Courses Return to Play After Historic Rainfall
Several Edmonton-area golf courses have reopened after record-breaking June rainfall forced them to close. The Mill Woods Golf Club, seen in an aerial view on June 30, 2026, is among the venues now welcoming golfers again as conditions improve.
Record Rainfall Causes Widespread Closures
According to CTV News Edmonton, the region experienced unprecedented precipitation in June, with rainfall totals exceeding historical averages. The deluge led to waterlogged fairways and greens, making play impossible and prompting course closures across the area.
Craig Ellingson reported that the Mill Woods Golf Club, a popular municipal course, was particularly affected. The aerial photograph by Sean McClune shows the course after the rains, highlighting the challenges faced by groundskeepers.
Recovery and Reopening Efforts
Course maintenance crews worked diligently to drain waterlogged areas and repair damage. The reopening marks a return to normalcy for local golfers who had been sidelined by the weather.
“We’re thrilled to have the courses back in play,” said a spokesperson for the City of Edmonton’s golf operations. “Our teams put in long hours to ensure the facilities are safe and enjoyable.”
The reopening comes just in time for Canada Day celebrations, allowing residents to enjoy outdoor activities after the prolonged wet spell.
