In a world often divided between talk and action, Toronto saxophonist Dave McLaughlin firmly stands in the camp of those who walk the walk. McLaughlin, a world-class musician who emigrated from Jamaica to Canada in 1991 and later became a citizen, has built a reputation not just for his saxophone skills but for his unwavering commitment to philanthropy. On Saturday, February 28, he will host a fundraising gospel concert at the Rosewood Church of the Nazarene in Scarborough, starting at 7:00 PM. The concert is part of a series he organizes two to three times annually, with proceeds funding scholarships for deserving youth in the Greater Toronto Area and providing relief for hurricane-affected regions in Jamaica, his birthplace. Additionally, McLaughlin donates a portion of his CD sales to various charitable causes, demonstrating a holistic approach to giving.

McLaughlin's musical career has taken him around the world, where he has performed for large audiences and even opened for legends like Ray Charles. He is also recognized by Rita Marley, wife of reggae icon Bob Marley, who considers him her adopted son and entrusted him with composing a song celebrating Bob Marley's life. Today, he leads the Dave McLaughlin Band, performing at corporate events, weddings, and social gatherings across the GTA.
His devotion to charity stems from early lessons instilled by his family in Montego Bay, where he was taught at his local parish church that charity is a divine commandment, encapsulated in the phrase, "Blessed are those who consider the poor." McLaughlin believes strongly in the power of education and mentorship, stating, "Every child can grow up to become anything—a doctor, a lawyer, or a criminal—and we have to help them make the right choices."
