Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling Hosts Windsor Mega Event Celebrating Canadian Identity
This Friday and Saturday, Windsor will become the epicenter of professional wrestling as Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling (MLP) presents its highly anticipated "Mega Event weekend" at St. Clair College. The revived promotion promises to deliver world-class in-ring action while championing Canadian pride and identity.
A Resurrected Icon with National Pride
Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling, launched in 2024 as a resurrection of the historic Canadian promotion, has woven Canadian branding and talent development into its core mission from the beginning. Owner Scott D'Amore, a retired professional wrestler, emphasizes that this commitment to Canada has become increasingly significant amid current global tensions and trade conflicts involving the United States.
"For everything we stand for, what our goals and our mission statement is for Maple Leaf Pro, it was really important to us to do that Canadian branding," D'Amore explained. "Then, lo and behold, a few months later, something happens down south and there's a new leader. We thought it might have been to our detriment to be Canadian. But now it's so warming to see Canadians rally around all things Canada and Canadiana."
Two Nights of International Wrestling Excellence
The mega event spans two consecutive nights on March 27-28, each featuring distinct programming and star power:
- Friday, March 27: A co-branded show with U.S.-based Ring of Honor (ROH), which operates under the All Elite Wrestling (AEW) umbrella. Current AEW champion Ricochet will headline this event, titled "ROH x MLP Global Wars."
- Saturday, March 28: MLP presents "Uprising," featuring The Good Brothers—Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows—in the main event.
Friday's event has already sold out, while Saturday's show had limited seating available earlier this week. Both events will also be accessible via TrillerTV pay-per-view for fans unable to attend in person.
Connections to Global Wrestling Powerhouses
The collaboration with Ring of Honor brings significant international credibility to the Windsor event. AEW, owned by billionaire Tony Khan, ranks as the second-largest wrestling promotion globally, trailing only World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). The Khan family's diverse sports portfolio includes:
- The NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars
- Premier League's Fulham FC
- Auto parts company Flex-N-Gate, which maintains operations in Windsor
Preserving Wrestling Heritage While Looking Forward
D'Amore's revival of the Maple Leaf wrestling name in October 2024 continues a legacy that dates back to 1930, when the promotion began as the Queensbury Athletic Club in Toronto. The original Maple Leaf wrestling operated for decades with Maple Leaf Gardens as its primary venue before being sold to WWE following owner Frank Tunney's death in 1983.
"We want to take a hometown version of that slick national product," D'Amore stated regarding MLP's production values. "Now, let Canada have its own version of that. So, you'll see the big screens, you'll see the lights, you'll see all the pomp and circumstance, and you'll see some of the best in-ring action you'll find anywhere in the world."
The Windsor mega event represents more than just entertainment—it's a statement about Canadian cultural identity in the professional wrestling landscape, blending international talent with homegrown production values and patriotic branding.
