Sony Pictures Entertainment has officially released the trailer for The Social Reckoning, a Vancouver-shot film written and directed by Aaron Sorkin. The movie stars Jeremy Allen White and Mikey Madison, and delves into the Facebook whistleblower scandal that shocked the world.
About the Film
Described as a companion piece to Sorkin's Academy Award-winning 2010 film The Social Network, The Social Reckoning is based on the events that led to The Wall Street Journal's explosive exposé The Facebook Files. The official synopsis reveals that the story follows Frances Haugen (Madison), a young Facebook engineer, who enlists the help of reporter Jeff Horwitz (White) to expose the social network's most guarded secrets.
Cast and Release Date
The film, set to hit theatres on October 9, features an ensemble cast including Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, Billy Magnussen, Bill Burr, and Jeremy Strong, who portrays Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. In the trailer, Haugen meets Horwitz in a park, expressing her desire to help Facebook, not hurt it. The tension escalates as Strong's Zuckerberg, in a courtroom scene, describes himself as a professional defendant.
Vancouver Filming Locations
Shot in Vancouver last fall, the production transformed local landmarks into cinematic settings. The Vancouver Art Gallery stood in for the U.S. Capitol, while English Bay was turned into a tropical-style beach bar. The trailer showcases these stunning transformations, highlighting the city's versatility as a filming location.
