Prime Video has unveiled the official trailer for the highly anticipated Legally Blonde prequel series, Elle, which was filmed in Vancouver. The series stars newcomer Lexi Minetree as a teenage Elle Woods, long before her iconic Harvard Law School days.
Premiere Date and Episode Release
All eight episodes of the first season will be available on Prime Video on July 1. Production on a second season is already underway in Vancouver.
Plot and Setting
Set in 1995, the series follows Elle as her family relocates from the sunny, affluent Bel-Air neighborhood of Los Angeles to Seattle. Elle must navigate the challenges of a new high school, where her signature pink wardrobe and bubbly personality clash with the grunge aesthetic of her peers. One character tells Elle that pink "isn't a personality" in this new environment.
According to the official synopsis: "With each challenge she faces, Elle grows closer to the Elle Woods we know and love today." The series explores Elle's relationships, particularly with her mother, played by June Diane Raphael, as she adapts to her new surroundings.
Trailer Highlights
The trailer shows Elle learning about the move to Seattle and struggling to fit in at her new school. In one scene, Elle introduces herself to a grunge-dressed classmate, saying: "I'm Elle. I like iced coffee, the month of July, and when people dress kind of tennis-y even when they don't play tennis."
Cast and Production
Alongside Minetree and Raphael, the cast includes Tom Everett Scott, Jacob Moskovitz, Gabrielle Policano, Chandler Kinney, Zac Looker, and Amy Pietz. Reese Witherspoon, who played Elle Woods in the original films, serves as an executive producer.
The series was shot entirely in Vancouver, British Columbia, utilizing local production facilities and talent.
