Bunkmate of Deadliest Catch Star Opens Up About Tragic Night at Sea

Trey John Green III, the bunkmate of Deadliest Catch star Todd Meadows, is sharing emotional details about the night the fisherman died after falling overboard. In an interview with Us Weekly, Green described Meadows as "an amazing human" and recounted how the events of February 25, 2026, "ended in tragedy."

Desperate Rescue Attempts Captured on Camera

Green revealed that Meadows fell overboard while filming for the popular Discovery Channel series, and he along with the rest of the crew "did everything we could to save him." He emphasized that this was "no easy task" given they were "out at sea" at the time of the accident.

The tragedy was captured on multiple cameras according to Green's account:

  • A production team had been filming for season 22 of Deadliest Catch with a producer and deck cam operator on board
  • A continuous deck camera that records 24/7 captured the entire incident
  • Discovery had nearly completed filming for the season when the accident occurred

Coast Guard Confirms Details of the Incident

The United States Coast Guard Arctic District released an official statement confirming that Meadows "fell overboard" just after 5 p.m. local time approximately 170 miles north of Dutch Harbor, Alaska. According to their report:

  1. The crew recovered Meadows approximately 10 minutes later
  2. He was unresponsive when pulled from the water
  3. Attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful
  4. The crew transported his body to Dutch Harbor

The Coast Guard noted that the incident remains under investigation as they work to "understand the cause of the accident" and determine any necessary corrective actions.

Emotional Tributes from Fishing Community

Captain Rick Shelford of the Aleutian Lady, the fishing vessel where Meadows worked, shared an emotional tribute on Facebook following the tragedy. Shelford wrote that "we lost our brother, Todd Meadows" and described how the 25-year-old had "quickly became family" despite being the newest member of their crew.

Green told Us Weekly that prior to his death, "Todd was doing a great job" and expressed his belief that the incident was "none of Todd's fault." The fishing crew is currently taking time off to mourn but plans to return in a few days to "finish the season."

What Discovery Channel will do with the footage of the tragic incident remains uncertain according to Green. The Aleutian Lady was the last boat still at sea for season 22 production of Deadliest Catch when the accident occurred, bringing a somber conclusion to the filming cycle.
