Cinco de Mayo Celebrations
Mexican cuisine and culture took center stage as thousands gathered for the weekend-long Cinco de Mayo festivities at WindsorEats, transforming the patio into a vibrant fiesta. The celebration continues with two major events.
Walkerville Brewery Fiesta
Walkerville Brewery at 525 Argyle Road hosts a three-day fiesta from May 1 to 3. Friday kicks off from 5 to 10 p.m. with a preview of the special menu. Saturday runs from noon to 10 p.m. with DJ Kreem spinning Latin dance favorites. Sunday closes the weekend from noon to 8 p.m. with a live performance by Sabor Latino Trio.
WindsorEats Food Hall
WindsorEats Food Hall at 400 Erie Street East also offers a three-day Cinco de Mayo celebration from May 1 to 3. Enjoy Mexican bites, margaritas, and Latin music by Sabor Latin Band. Festivities start at 5 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. on Sunday.
Free Comic Book Day
Heroic adventure awaits on Saturday as Free Comic Book Day takes over downtown Windsor. Rogues Gallery Comics at 327 Chatham Street leads with free comic giveaways. Collect additional titles at participating locations: Chimczuk Museum, Art Windsor-Essex, François Baby House, and Windsor Public Library Central Branch. Free admission is offered at Chimczuk Museum and Art Windsor-Essex from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Local artist George Rizok will provide custom comic sketches from noon to 4 p.m.
Steps for Life Walk
Join the family-friendly five-kilometer walk on Sunday supporting Threads of Life, aiding those affected by workplace tragedies. All funds raised go toward peer support group programs for families coping with workplace deaths or injuries. The walk takes place at Malden Park, 4200 Malden Road. Registration opens at 9 a.m. Pre-register online at stepsforlife.ca.
Local History Theatre
Arts Collective Theatre presents The Price of Freedom, a play set against the backdrop of the Underground Railroad and the Windsor-Detroit region. The cast includes University of Windsor drama students and community members, telling the story of John Anderson, a freedom seeker whose extradition case became a widely debated legal battle. Disney's Frozen on Stage
Windsor Light Music Theatre brings Disney's Frozen to the Chrysler Theatre at 201 Riverside Drive West. The story of sisters Elsa and Anna comes to life with dazzling costumes and big musical numbers. Watercolour Workshop
Drop in at Art Windsor-Essex, 401 Riverside Drive West, between 1 and 4 p.m. on Sunday to learn watercolour painting techniques. Paint tulips and leaves, then assemble them into a three-dimensional floral composition. No registration required. All ages welcome.
