Explore Edmonton has unveiled a new hop-on-hop-off trolley service designed to help residents and visitors discover the Alberta capital's most unique and iconic spots. The Edmonton Explorer trolleys, brought in from Boston, have been redesigned to feature a classic 1920s look, with each of the two cars accommodating approximately 20 riders. Plans are in place to eventually expand the trolley system.
Trolley Features and Experience
The bus-like units come complete with driver guides and offer a historic feel inside, with wooden benches outfitted with leather cushioning and open-air windows. This immersive experience aims to make exploring Edmonton more connected and convenient.
Partner Attractions
Nine participating attractions have partnered with the trolley service, including the Edmonton Riverboat, Fort Edmonton Park, and the Muttart Conservatory, where the trolley reveal took place. The trolley tours are part of the Discover Edmonton Pass system, which allows people to access multiple attractions at a reduced rate. Each trolley ride takes riders to partnered sites, with some rides lasting up to 45 minutes.
Official Launch and Pricing
The trolley tours officially open on June 15, alongside the Discover Edmonton Pass. A day pass is priced at $39 and is redeemable at two locations of the rider's choosing. The initiative aligns with Explore Edmonton's continued push to position the city as a desirable destination for tourists.
Edmonton Coun. Joanne Wright, present at the Wednesday launch, stated, "Our river valley, vibrant arts and culture scene, welcoming communities, and unique attractions all help to make this a city worth exploring."
Routes and Highlights
While the trolley offers multiple routes, Wednesday's attendees toured the river valley and Jasper Avenue. Another route will take passengers as far as the Alberta Aviation Museum on Kingsway Drive.
