The Mosaic Festival of Cultures, now in its 60th year, headlines a busy weekend of entertainment in Regina. The annual celebration of heritage and diversity runs Thursday through Saturday at various locations across the city, bringing the community together with food, music, and dance.
1. A Tradition Continues
This year's festival has grown to 19 pavilions, including Polish, Romanian, Bangladesh, First Nations, Metis Nation, Spirit of China, Scottish, Ukrainian, Philippine, Latino, Italian, India, Hispanos, Greek-Hellenic, Chinese, Austrian, Hungarian, and Persian. Mosaic passports, available on site, include access to pavilions as well as Regina transit buses until midnight. Learn more at reginamosaic.ca.
2. Arsenic and Old Lace
Globe Theatre opens its final show of the season at MacCorquodale Place. Arsenic and Old Lace — a Broadway classic and iconic 1944 film starring Cary Grant — runs until June 28, with three performances this weekend (Friday and Saturday night and Sunday afternoon). The production is described as a madcap gothic-tinged comedy treat in the spirit of The Addams Family and Beetlejuice. Learn more at globetheatrelive.com.
3. Pride Festival Begins
The Queen City Pride Festival, a 10-day celebration of Regina's gender and sexually diverse communities, begins Friday with a flag raising ceremony at city hall at 8 a.m. The event is followed by performances, workshops, and social gatherings, culminating with the Pride parade on June 13. Visit queencitypride.ca for a detailed schedule.
4. Cemetery Tours Return
The Regina Cemetery Tours are back, opening a weekly summer schedule Friday night. The 90-minute tours feature various themes, starting in June with Victims of the Regina Cyclone. The tour visits graves of those lost during the cyclone of June 30, 1912, and addresses legends and claims, including the infamous RMS Titanic connection. Patrons meet before 7 p.m. at the gates across from Young's Memorials (4th Ave. and Scarth St.).
5. Additional Weekend Events
Beyond these highlights, the weekend offers a variety of other activities, including local theater productions, live music performances, and art exhibits. Visitors are encouraged to explore Regina's vibrant cultural scene and enjoy the summer weather.
