Trump Temporarily Tables Grudge to Honor Murdoch's 95th Birthday
In a surprising turn of events, President Donald Trump momentarily suspended his ongoing legal battle with media titan Rupert Murdoch to extend warm birthday wishes to the billionaire. Despite currently pursuing a massive $10 billion lawsuit against Murdoch, Trump delivered nothing but praise in a video message played during the lavish 95th birthday celebration held in New York City on Saturday evening.
Glowing Tribute Amid Legal Strife
Fox News anchor Bret Bair introduced the recorded message, which featured Trump describing the former chairman of Fox Corporation and News Corporation as legendary and one of a kind. According to reports from the Murdoch-owned New York Post, Trump commended Murdoch for his courage, vision, and determination, emphasizing how he has changed the world. The video conspicuously omitted any reference to the contentious legal dispute between the two powerful figures.
Roots of the Controversial Lawsuit
The lawsuit originates from a far more provocative birthday message that Trump allegedly sent to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. This correspondence was brought to public attention by The Wall Street Journal, another Murdoch-owned publication, in July of last year. The controversial note, reportedly part of a collection compiled by Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell for Epstein's 50th birthday, contained cryptic exchanges between Donald and Jeffrey.
The document featured a woman's silhouette outline and Trump's distinctive signature positioned at the bottom in a manner resembling pubic hair. One section of the message to the notorious pedophile stated, We have certain things in common, Jeffrey, concluding with, A pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret.
Legal Proceedings and Personal Dynamics
Trump has vehemently denied the authenticity of the document, labeling it as fabricated, and subsequently filed a $10 billion libel lawsuit against Murdoch, News Corporation, Dow Jones (the publisher of The Wall Street Journal), and the journalists involved in the story. Following the initiation of legal action in July, Trump expressed his intentions on Truth Social, stating, I look forward to getting Rupert Murdoch to testify in my lawsuit against him and his 'pile of garbage' newspaper, the WSJ. That will be an interesting experience!!!
Despite the ongoing lawsuit, personal tensions between Trump and Murdoch appear to have eased somewhat. In a notable development last October, Trump reportedly hosted Murdoch, his wife, and several top media associates for a dinner at the White House, indicating a possible thaw in their relationship on a personal level, even as legal battles continue.
