President Donald Trump over the weekend launched a verbal attack on New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, targeting her new book co-authored with Jonathan Swan. The book, titled "Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump," contains startling revelations about Trump's return to the White House.
Trump's Social Media Rant
In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed he had a "very quick and boring briefing" about the book, which he dismissed as "mostly made up, Fake News, largely fiction." He wrote, "She is a third rate writer and intellect, who has made a first rate income because of your favorite President, ME."
Trump, known for giving insulting nicknames to his critics, attempted to call Haberman "Maggot Hagerman" but botched the attempt twice. He first referred to her as "Magot Hagerman," then later as "Margot." In the same message, he added, "And Iran will never have a Nuclear Weapon!!!" and signed off as "President DONALD J. TRUMP." He did not attack co-author Jonathan Swan.
Revelations in the Book
The book includes several startling revelations. It details a meeting held by senior Trump officials in the White House Situation Room regarding the fallout over files related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who was once a close friend of Trump. The book also reveals that billionaire Elon Musk effectively became "co-president" for four months after spending heavily to help Trump in the 2025 election. Additionally, it discloses that the Trump White House considered suspending habeas corpus, a fundamental constitutional right that prevents indefinite detention without formal charges.
