Tiger Woods Faces DUI Charges After Florida Rollover Crash
Golf legend Tiger Woods, 50, was arrested on Friday for driving under the influence following a rollover crash in Martin County, Florida, according to a newly released arrest affidavit from the Martin County Sheriff's Office. The affidavit details that Woods, whose legal name is Eldrick T. Woods, was "sweating profusely" and in possession of two opioid pills in his pocket at the time of the incident.
Details of the Crash and Arrest
Deputies reported that Woods was driving a black Range Rover when he struck a Ford F-150 from behind, causing his vehicle to crash and roll over. The driver of the Ford truck stated he had activated his turn signal to slow down for a right turn into a driveway before the collision occurred. Woods told deputies he was looking at his cell phone and changing the radio station, failing to notice the truck slowing down.
Both Woods and the truck driver did not report any injuries or require hospital treatment. However, deputies observed Woods displaying "several signs of impairment," including lethargic movements, bloodshot and glassy eyes, and extremely dilated pupils. During field sobriety exercises, he was noted to be "limping and stumbling to the right."
Medication and Legal Proceedings
Woods informed deputies that he had taken prescription medication for high blood pressure and cholesterol, ibuprofen, and Vicodin earlier that morning, but denied consuming any alcohol. A search during his arrest revealed two hydrocodone pills in his left pant pocket, an opioid combination used for moderate pain that can cause drowsiness.
Court records indicate Woods has entered a plea of not guilty and is scheduled for arraignment on April 23. An attorney representing Woods did not immediately respond to requests for comment from HuffPost. The charges against him include DUI with Property Damage and Refusal to Submit to a BAL Test.
