In a world gone off the rails, few things are weirder than killer fangirls. The nutty trio of women who are alleged assassin Luigi Mangione's biggest boosters has turned murder into Mardi Gras outside the New York State Supreme Court.
Mangione, 28, is accused of shooting and killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on a Manhattan street on Dec. 4, 2024. Thompson was married with two children. But when his mugshot was released, a small army of left-wing women dreamed of life with Luigi. The three fangirls stationed outside the New York court are — unsurprisingly — children of vast privilege.
In fact, the New York Post revealed that one of their mothers is a high-rolling exec at CVS Health. Bizarrely, the terrible trio managed to wangle press passes to get inside the courtroom. Anything appears possible in Zohran Mamdani's New York City.
Meet Team Luigi
Lena Weissbrot
She's the one dressed as Luigi from Super Mario fame, bedecked in a smart green beret. Weissbrot, 32, wasn't very happy when the tabloid revealed her mother is Reina Natero. Mom oversees prescription drug insurance coverage rules at CVS Health and was a longtime director for big pharma companies. Weissbrot said outside the court that Thompson's kids "are better off without him."
Mom lives in Portland, Oregon. Weissbrot graduated with a BFA from Florida State University. She won a Fullbright grant to study "South African artists identifying as feminists who use Hip-hop music as a form of activism." She has released a rap video extolling her love for Mangione.
Using the nom du guerre of Fellatia G, she describes herself as a game developer, rapper and "maker of erotic art." In videos she wears a bikini. After the Post story, she wrote on Instagram she would murder her mother if she became a healthcare CEO.
Abril Rios
Meet Nepo Baby number two. Rios was behind the viral Hot Girls 4 Zohran campaign but no Norma Rae is she. She grew up in a $1-million mansion in Princeton, N.J., and was a child model-actress. The 27-year-old blond flies around the stratosphere saving the planet at the University of Amsterdam with pitstops in Seoul. Her mom is married to special effects producer Julian Parry, who sorted her out career-wise and she worked on Netflix's The Witcher. Biological dad is a banking executive.
Ashley Rojas
The literal and figurative third wheel of the Mangionistas, the 24-year-old is a native New Yorker. Once, she had a sales associate job at Banana Republic followed by a stint as a baker at Whole Foods. Now, she is working on her "Modern Journalism" certificate from New York University. She is more circumspect than her comrades: "F--k Brian Thompson. That's all I want to say. F--k Brian Thompson. F--k his mom," Rojas said.
Stu Smith of the Manhattan Institute commented: "This has become an archetype at this point, when activists become defined as the 'anti' of what their parents were. There's no self-awareness." He also noted: "I'm certainly open to independent journalists getting a fair shot, but who is a propagandist — and arguably in love with Luigi — versus a voice that can provide some non-biased commentary and make a strong argument?"
The twisted trio's rhetoric is so extreme even Big Apple Mayor Zohran Mamdani slammed the fangirls. "Those three individuals should not have received press passes," he said.
