Paige Shiver, who previously worked as an executive assistant to former University of Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore, is speaking publicly about their past relationship for the first time. Moore was fired from his job in December after university officials discovered he had been engaged in an “inappropriate relationship with a staff member.”
Shiver’s Account of the Relationship
Speaking to ABC’s “Good Morning America” in an interview that aired Friday, Shiver confirmed she had come forward with evidence of her relationship with Moore, a married father of three, when the pair were both still working for the University of Michigan last year. The 32-year-old said her relationship with Moore lasted about four years and was consensual at first. Over time, she claimed that he became increasingly manipulative.
“He and other coaches had control over my career, especially him. I mean, he could fire me in a second,” she explained. “Every time I tried to pull away, he always had a story, always had a way to pull me in and making me feel that I couldn’t leave him because he was so miserable without me.”
Pregnancy and Health Concerns
Shiver became visibly emotional when she acknowledged she had become pregnant with Moore’s baby at some point during the relationship. She said doctors advised her to terminate her pregnancy because she has Pompe disease, a rare genetic disorder that weakens muscle strength. When “GMA” asked if she had planned to keep Moore’s child had she been told it was safe to do so, Shiver tearfully replied, “Yes.” As for Moore’s reaction, she added: “He said, ‘You have to do what’s right for your body.’”
Legal Consequences
Hours after being fired, Moore was arrested and jailed on assault charges. Shiver now claims he forcefully entered her home and began threatening self-harm with butter knives. Ultimately, Moore was sentenced to 18 months’ probation for trespassing and malicious use of a phone. More serious charges, including home invasion, were dismissed under a plea agreement.
“I think he should’ve gotten more punishment for what he did,” Shiver told “GMA.” As to whether she was in love with Moore throughout the duration of their relationship, she said, “I did, but obviously looking back at things and really reflected on what happened ... that’s not love at all.”

At the time of his appointment, he signed a five-year contract with a base annual salary of $5.5 million.
Though Moore’s firing and subsequent arrest made national headlines, a source in the college football world told CBS Sports in December that the former coach’s relationship with Shiver was “the worst-kept secret.”
“Everybody in the program has known this the last two seasons,” a high-level Michigan booster told the outlet. “This is a sad day to see it come to this. I feel horrible for all the players, coaches and families who are going to be disrupted. And I don’t know what becomes of Sherrone.”
Response from Moore’s Attorney
When asked for comment on Shiver’s claims, an attorney for Moore told “GMA” in a statement: “Sherrone Moore has closed this chapter.” Though Shiver is no longer employed by the University of Michigan, she says she hopes to encourage other women who are in similar situations to speak out.
“I just want other women that are going through this to know that this doesn’t need to happen,” she said. “It doesn’t need to go this far.”
