Canadian-American rock icon Neil Young has unleashed another torrent of criticism aimed directly at former President Donald Trump and his administration. In a fiery post on his official website this week, the legendary musician painted a dire picture of the current state of America and issued a call for peaceful, mass public response.
A Scathing Assessment of American Politics
Young did not mince words in his latest online missive. He described the present-day United States as a "disaster" and placed the blame squarely on the doorstep of Donald Trump. The artist accused Trump of systematically dismantling the nation, piece by piece, with the help of an unqualified inner circle.
"Donald Trump is destroying America bit by bit with his staff of wannabes, people with no experience or talent, closet alcoholic wife beaters, inexperienced leaders who only know how to lie," Young wrote. He further condemned a "Congress full of Republicans acting like idiots with no conscience." This continues a long pattern of criticism from Young, a dual citizen who has used both his website and his music to challenge Trump since his return to the political arena.
From Musical Praise to Political Opposition
The current animosity marks a stark reversal from years past. Long before his first presidential campaign, Donald Trump had publicly expressed admiration for Neil Young's music, once calling him a "terrific guy." However, any goodwill has long since evaporated. In recent years, Young has repeatedly taken Trump to task for engaging in online feuds with artists instead of addressing national crises, labeled his administration "out of control," and critiqued his "fascist" governing style in a song.
In his Thursday post, Young urged citizens to "take Trump at his word" and then turned the former president's own slogan against him. "Make America Great Again," Young suggested. "It won't be easy while he is trying to turn our cities into battlegrounds so he can cancel our elections with [martial] law and escape all accountability."
A Call for Peaceful Action Amid Tragedy
The rocker's passionate commentary followed a tragic incident involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The shooting death of Renee Good, a Minneapolis mother of three, by an ICE agent served as a catalyst for Young's words. Trump and key administration officials have since blamed Good for the shooting without providing evidence.
Declaring that it's "ICE cold" in America, Young offered a path forward rooted in compassion. "He knows nothing about love," Young wrote of Trump. "He does not know who you are. Use your love of life, your love of one another, your love of children, yours and theirs and ours. Peacefully. Now."
Young concluded with a direct plea for change, emphasizing non-violent mobilization. "Something has to change this. We know what to do. Rise up. Peacefully in millions. Too many innocent people are dying," he stated, framing the upcoming electoral process as a critical juncture for the nation's future.
