Natasha Lyonne Makes Red Carpet Appearance Following Flight Incident
Actress Natasha Lyonne attended the premiere of Focus Features' Lorne at Alice Tully Hall in New York City on Thursday, marking her first public appearance since being escorted from a Delta Air Lines flight earlier in the week. The Poker Face star walked the red carpet just one day after the controversial travel episode that prevented her from appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show as scheduled.
Flight Details and Removal from Plane
According to reports from Page Six, the incident occurred on a red-eye flight from Los Angeles International Airport to New York. The 47-year-old actress was seated in first class when she allegedly failed to respond to multiple requests from flight attendants to close her laptop and fasten her seatbelt for takeoff. Witnesses described Lyonne as wearing sunglasses and appearing to be asleep, though she became startled at one point, telling a flight attendant, "Ah! You scared me!"
When asked by Delta staff where she thought they were, Lyonne reportedly responded, "Where are we?" to which the employee answered, "We're still in L.A. The plane hasn't gone anywhere. The plane is not going anywhere until you come off it." The American Pie alum eventually left her seat to use the bathroom before obediently disembarking after her luggage had been removed from the aircraft. The flight was delayed for more than an hour before departing without further issues.
Social Media Response and Sobriety Journey
Lyonne addressed the situation on social media platform X on Thursday, writing, "My heart is with all the unpaid TSA agents at our airports. Sure was looking forward to speaking honestly with @DrewBarrymore yesterday but guess wasn't in the cards." She also questioned the ownership of Page Six and the New York Post in her post.
The actress has been transparent about her ongoing sobriety journey in recent months. In January, Lyonne revealed she had relapsed after nearly ten years of sobriety, posting on X (though the messages were later deleted): "Recovery is a lifelong process. Anyone out there struggling, remember you're not alone. Grateful for love and smart feet. Stay honest, folks. Sick as our secrets."
She continued with words of encouragement: "If no one told ya today, I love you. No matter how far down the scales we have gone, we will see how our experience may help another. Keep going, kiddos. Don't quit before the miracle. Wallpaper your mind with love. Rest is all noise and baloney."
Recent Recovery Update and Career Activities
By March 19, Lyonne shared a positive update on her recovery journey via X: "Proud to report this kid is doing a whole lot better and back on her feet. [I] want to thank our recovery communities and the fans who stood by and were so supportive." She noted that while she plans to keep most of her journey private, she looks forward to sharing her experience when appropriate.
The New York premiere represented Lyonne's second red carpet appearance in as many days. On Tuesday, she attended the Los Angeles premiere of Euphoria's third season, where she appears as a guest star, wearing a sheer top that exposed her breasts. Her travel from Los Angeles to New York was intended to accommodate her scheduled appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, which was ultimately canceled due to the flight incident.
Lyonne's career continues with her role in the critically acclaimed series Russian Doll, for which she has received widespread recognition. The flight removal incident highlights the challenges public figures face when traveling while maintaining professional commitments and personal wellness journeys.
