Link to Violence
The committee draws a direct line between online misogyny and acts of violence, citing the 2018 Toronto van attack as a stark example. The attacker, who killed 11 people, was influenced by incel (involuntary celibate) ideology, a key component of the 'manosphere.' The report stresses that these ideologies are spreading rapidly among young men, fueled by algorithms that amplify extreme content.
Government Response
In response, Minister for Women and Gender Equality Marci Ien acknowledged the seriousness of the issue and pledged to review the recommendations. She noted that the government has already taken steps, such as funding community programs and working with tech companies, but more needs to be done. Critics, however, argue that the government has been slow to act and that stronger measures are needed.

MPs from all parties have united in calling for urgent action. Conservative MP Michelle Ferreri said, 'We cannot afford to ignore this.
