Meghan Trainor Cancels Summer Tour to Focus on Family After Baby's Birth
Pop sensation Meghan Trainor has made the difficult decision to cancel her entire summer tour, which was scheduled to begin in June. The announcement came via her Instagram Stories, just two months before the tour was set to kick off and three months after the birth of her daughter, Mikey Moon, via surrogate in January.
A Heartfelt Decision for Family Balance
In her social media post, Trainor explained the reasoning behind her cancellation. "After a lot of reflection and some really tough conversations, I've made the difficult decision to cancel The Get In Girl Tour," she wrote. "Balancing the release of a new album, preparing for a nationwide tour and welcoming our new baby girl to our growing family of five has just been more than I can take on right now, and I need to be home and present for each and all of them at this time."
The 32-year-old singer and her husband, actor Daryl Sabara, 33, are parents to three children: sons Riley, 5, and Barry, 3, and newborn daughter Mikey Moon. Trainor emphasized that this choice was necessary for her family's well-being, despite knowing it would disappoint fans.
Tour Details and Canadian Impact
The summer tour was planned to start on June 12 in Clarkston, Michigan, and conclude two months later at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California. Notably, Trainor's only Canadian performance was scheduled for June 16 at Toronto's RBC Amphitheatre, which would have been her third show of the tour. This cancellation leaves Canadian fans without an opportunity to see her perform live this summer.
Pop duo Icona Pop, who were set to open for Trainor, responded to the news with support, posting on their Instagram Stories that they are "working on a new plan to come and dance with you ASAP." They sent their "love and blessings" to Trainor during this time.
New Album Release and Personal Inspiration
The tour cancellation comes just a week before the release of Trainor's seventh studio album, "Toy With Me," which is slated for April 24. Interestingly, Trainor revealed that some songs on the album were inspired by her daughter. She previously told Us Weekly, "I wrote these songs for my baby girl, for when she's in middle school, or when she goes through her first breakup, and yeah, when she needs to shimmer and feel confident."
Despite the tour's cancellation, Trainor remains optimistic about her music career. In her Instagram post, she promised fans, "I'll be back soon, and I can't wait for you to hear this new record. I'm so proud of it, and I'm endlessly grateful for your love and support always."
Broader Context and Fan Reactions
This move highlights the ongoing challenges artists face in balancing professional commitments with personal life, especially after expanding their families. Trainor's decision reflects a growing trend among celebrities prioritizing mental health and family time over rigorous touring schedules.
Fans have expressed mixed reactions, with many showing understanding and support for her choice, while others have voiced disappointment over missing the chance to see her perform live. The cancellation underscores the unpredictable nature of the entertainment industry, where personal circumstances can swiftly alter planned events.
As Trainor focuses on her family and new album release, the music community awaits her return to the stage, hoping for future tours that align with her personal and professional goals.
