David Letterman Reacts to Trump's Attacks on Seth Meyers
Letterman on Trump's Attacks Against Seth Meyers

Legendary television host David Letterman has publicly weighed in on the ongoing feud between former President Donald Trump and Late Night host Seth Meyers. Letterman's comments came in response to Trump's repeated calls for NBC to fire the comedian.

Letterman's Proud Defense

In a clip shared on his YouTube page on Tuesday, David Letterman shared his reaction to Trump's demand that NBC should "IMMEDIATELY" fire Seth Meyers. Letterman recounted his initial thoughts, stating he found the situation "delightful" and wondered how the former president thought his request would succeed.

"I've never been more proud of Seth Meyers," Letterman declared, praising the comedian's work as "magical." He did, however, offer a cryptic warning to his fellow late-night host, adding, "But just remember, Seth, things happen!"

The Origins of the Feud

The conflict ignited earlier this month when Trump took to his Truth Social platform to attack Meyers. The former president was angered by jokes Meyers made about his complaints regarding "catapults" on U.S. Navy aircraft carriers.

In his posts, Trump labeled Meyers a "truly deranged lunatic" and claimed the comedian was "100% ANTI TRUMP, WHICH IS PROBABLY ILLEGAL!!!" Meyers did not back down, responding directly with a supercut segment on his show that meticulously dismantled Trump's claim that he had "endlessly" discussed the topic of catapults.

A Reignited Controversy

The dispute flared up again nearly two weeks later when NBC aired a rerun of the episode containing the original catapult jokes. This prompted a fresh wave of anger from Trump on social media.

Meyers once again used his platform to respond, humorously pointing out that the president shouldn't "get mad a second time for the same thing when it's in a repeat." This marks the latest chapter in a series of conflicts between Trump and late-night television hosts.

This is not the first time Letterman has come to the defense of a fellow comedian facing pressure from Trump. In September, he publicly supported his friend Jimmy Kimmel after ABC indefinitely suspended his show following threats from the Trump administration.

During the same Tuesday discussion, which was prompted by a comment from his former Late Show producer Barbara Gaines about a recent "piggy" insult from Trump, Letterman did not hold back his criticism of the former president.

"Oh man, just a wonder of idiocy. It's just fantastic, it knows no bounds," Letterman said. He went even further, adding, "It's never-ending, he's our current — he's our dictator. He's not going anywhere."

He concluded with a stark assessment, stating, "It's like 18 times the worst behavior one has witnessed ever anywhere... Think of the worst thing that you've ever seen humans accomplish. This is so much worse."
